Info
The Rolex Submariner Date 16610 stands as one of the most beloved chapters in the history of the Submariner: a perfect balance of sporty heritage, classic proportions, and the unmistakable aluminium bezel that remains a hallmark of the pre-ceramic era.
This configuration dates back to the early 1990s, a period when the Submariner still featured a tritium dial, recognisable by the Swiss-T<25 designation. On this example, the luminous material has remained remarkably well preserved, with clean, even tones and no significant yellowing—an authentic presentation fully consistent with its production period.
The 16610 of this era represents the archetype of the “classic” Submariner: a 40 mm Oyster case with harmonious proportions, an aluminium bezel insert with lively metallic reflections, a light and practical Oyster bracelet, and the Rolex Calibre 3135—an emblem of reliability and precision for more than three decades. This pre-ceramic version remains highly sought-after as it embodies what many enthusiasts consider the true essence of the Submariner: sporty yet elegant, understated yet iconic, versatile in every setting.
Case, Bracelet, Dial & Glass
General Overview: This Rolex Submariner Date 16610 immediately stands out for its excellent condition, enhanced by a professional polishing and satin-finishing service carried out by specialised technicians. The work was performed with full respect for the original case geometry, restoring the watch’s brilliance without altering its integrity. As shown in our high-definition photos, some minor signs of wear remain—particularly small dots or hairlines on the polished case flanks. These marks are imperceptible to the touch and visible only under specific lighting conditions, remaining virtually unnoticeable when the watch is worn. The satin-finished surfaces, on the other hand, are impeccable. The watch has also undergone a complete service at our authorised workshop, bringing the Rolex Calibre 3135 back to the correct operating parameters required by the manufacturer. The original warranty card is no longer present, but the watch comes with an extensive set of accessories, as shown in the final photo of the listing.
The 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case is in excellent condition, with light signs of wear limited primarily to the polished surfaces. The black aluminium bezel insert, a signature element of the pre-ceramic series, is also in excellent condition, showing normal wear consistent with age and careful use.
The Oyster bracelet ref. 93150 with 501B end links, composed of 12 links, is in excellent condition and fits wrist sizes up to approximately 20 cm. The clasp, coded O2, is also in excellent shape, functioning smoothly and securely.
The black tritium dial is perfectly preserved, with crisp graphics and evenly aged markers. The sapphire crystal shows some wear concentrated around the Cyclops lens, though this does not affect overall aesthetics or legibility.
