Info
The Omega Speedmaster Professional Apollo XI reference 3592.50.00 represents one of the most fascinating chapters in the modern history of the Moonwatch. Introduced in the late 1980s to celebrate the historic Apollo 11 mission, the first to land man on the Moon, this model stands out for several details that make it highly sought after among collectors. Unlike the classic Speedmasters with a solid caseback, this reference is fitted with a sapphire display back that reveals the mechanical movement inside, a then-innovative choice that turned the watch not only into a professional tool but also into an object of appreciation and admiration.
At its heart beats the calibre 863, derived from the legendary Lemania 1873, here featuring gilt finishes that earned it the nickname “gilt movement.” This decoration was not only aesthetic but also reflected Omega’s intent to elevate the Moonwatch to a more refined status while preserving its technical essence. In the early 1990s, this calibre was paired with dials and hands treated with tritium, a luminous material that with time develops a warm honey-golden patina, one of the most cherished aspects of these examples.
Produced in 1993, the watch still carries the “Apollo XI” engraving on the caseback, a detail that would disappear in later years, and is paired with the iconic Omega 1479 bracelet, much appreciated for its comfort and its distinctly 1990s design. These details place the 3592.50 in a unique transitional phase, midway between the traditional Speedmaster and the later versions, striking a perfect balance between vintage charm and commemorative spirit.
The result is a Moonwatch with a very special soul: a direct link to the conquest of space, the rare opportunity to admire the movement through the display back, and the warmth of natural tritium patina that makes every example unique and unrepeatable. It is precisely this combination of history, technique, and character that makes the Apollo XI 3592.50 one of the most beloved Speedmasters, capable of representing an era while preserving the timeless charisma of the collection.
Case, Bracelet, Dial & Glass
The 42 mm stainless steel case of the Omega Speedmaster Professional Apollo XI ref. 3592.50.00 is in excellent condition, enhanced by the professional polishing carried out during the latest Omega service. The tachymeter bezel is also in excellent condition, showing only minimal signs of wear that are hardly noticeable, thus maintaining the classic elegance of the Moonwatch.
The stainless steel bracelet reference 1479 with 812 end links, composed of 21 links, is also in excellent condition. Its satin finish was carefully restored during servicing, and the structure remains solid and free of significant wear. Suitable for wrists up to approximately 20 cm in circumference, it shows only light and natural stretch typical of bracelets from this era, without compromising comfort or appearance.
The black dial is beautifully preserved, with tritium hour markers that have aged to a warm and even golden-sand patina, giving the watch an irresistible vintage charm and unique character. The crisp white inscriptions remain perfectly legible, highlighting the clarity and harmony of the Speedmaster’s design.
The Hesalite crystal, replaced during the service, is brand new and flawless.
