The Tudor Submariner ref. 79090 represents one of the final chapters in the Submariner line before the transition to sapphire crystal and unidirectional bezel models. Introduced in the late 1980s, this watch retains vintage charm thanks to its acrylic crystal and bidirectional rotating bezel, while already anticipating the more modern design language that would characterize subsequent Tudor references.
The 79090 marks the return of the iconic “Mercedes” hands, following the long period in which Tudor had offered the celebrated “snowflake” style. A detail that strongly links this model to Rolex tradition is the Triplock crown, adorned with the Rolex logo, which provides advanced protection against water and dust intrusion, ensuring water resistance up to 200 meters. The screw-down caseback, engraved with “Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva,” also highlights the close technical connection between the two brands in that era, when Tudor relied on Rolex cases and finishing components to maintain exceptional quality standards.
Inside beats the reliable ETA 2824-2 automatic caliber, appreciated for robustness and accuracy, housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case that enhances its versatility: sporty, professional, yet perfectly suited for elegant everyday wear. Completing the package is the period-correct Tudor 9315 bracelet with folded links and Flip-Lock clasp, which adds both authenticity and historical consistency to this watch.
Today, the Tudor Submariner ref. 79090 is highly sought after for its nature as a “transitional” model: the last with plexiglass and bidirectional bezel, yet already leaning towards modern aesthetics. A fundamental milestone in the brand’s history, capable of combining tradition and innovation in a timeless design.
Case, Bracelet, Dial & Glass
The stainless steel case of the Tudor Submariner 79090 is in excellent overall condition, showing only light signs of wear barely visible to the naked eye. The steel bezel with black aluminum insert also remains well-preserved: the subtle marks of time do not compromise its appearance or functionality, keeping the model’s original character intact.
The period-correct Tudor reference 9315 bracelet, fitted with 380B end links, is likewise in good condition. It shows the typical adjustment marks on the central links caused by resizing over the years, a common trait of folded-link bracelets and a testament to its authenticity. The Flip-Lock clasp with Tudor shield is in excellent condition and bears the O7 code, confirming its consistency with July 1990 production. With its 12 folded links, the bracelet comfortably adapts to wrists up to approximately 20 cm in circumference.
The original black dial is in excellent condition, with indexes and “Mercedes” hands showing a light, even patina that enhances its character while maintaining perfect legibility.
The acrylic crystal, recently replaced during a full service, is brand new and free from imperfections.

The watch comes with a rich set, including the original Tudor box with its cardboard outer box, the original warranty, warranty holder, and plastic hangtag. In addition, we provide our O&D Vintage warranty and a certificate of authenticity and lawful provenance.
Originally sold by an official Tudor retailer on October 22, 1990, the watch has undergone a complete service at our certified workshop. During the intervention, some worn internal components and the acrylic crystal were replaced; all replaced parts will be delivered together with the watch, ensuring full transparency.
We offer a 2-year warranty from the date of purchase, covering the movement against mechanical defects not attributable to improper use or accidental damage.
