Info

The Tudor Prince Date Tiger 79280 represents one of the most iconic expressions of Tudor’s chronograph production at the turn of the millennium. It belongs to a very specific historical moment: Tudor was still deeply connected to Rolex’s industrial architecture, yet already developing a distinct and more independent sporting identity. The result is a chronograph with strong character, technical substance, and remarkable visual balance.

The silver dial version with black subdials, often nicknamed “Ghost” among collectors, is one of the most fascinating configurations within the Tiger range. The reason is immediately evident: the light-toned dial with sunburst effect captures light in a soft and dynamic way, creating depth and movement, while the three black subdials introduce a clean yet elegant contrast, never overly aggressive. The overall impression is refined, highly legible, and surprisingly contemporary even today.

The red “Tiger” signature beneath the 12 o’clock counter adds a subtle yet distinctive racing accent, referencing the Tiger Woods partnership that defined this era of the brand. It is more than a stylistic detail; it is a precise historical marker that situates the watch within a well-defined phase of Tudor production.

The 40 mm stainless steel case, paired with its engraved steel tachymeter bezel, gives the watch a solid and purposeful wrist presence while maintaining aesthetic restraint. Unlike versions fitted with black bezel inserts, the fully steel bezel reinforces the monochromatic and more sophisticated personality of the “Ghost” configuration.

Inside beats the proven automatic chronograph movement based on the ETA 7750 architecture — robust, reliable, and highly serviceable. It is one of the most respected chronograph calibres for durability and precision, and the technical foundation that made the Tiger models true instruments rather than mere stylistic interpretations.

An additional element of considerable collector interest is the Rolex-signed crown, typical of this transitional period. It reflects the close industrial connection between the two maisons and remains a particularly appreciated detail among enthusiasts.

The Tudor Prince Date Tiger 79280 “Ghost” is not simply an alternative to the Daytona of its era; it is a chronograph with its own identity, coherent historical narrative, and a color configuration that remains balanced, elegant, and strikingly modern.

A model that combines technique, history, and strong visual personality — rediscovered today by collectors who value coherence, originality, and authentic period details.

Case, Bracelet, Dial & Glass

General Overview: This Tudor Prince Date Tiger 79280, produced in the early months of 2000, is presented in excellent condition, with a level of preservation rarely found in a sports chronograph of its era. The watch has not been polished and retains its original proportions, showing only light signs of wear such as minor surface hairlines and a very small chip not perceptible to the touch. The automatic Tudor movement, based on the reliable ETA 7750 architecture, is in excellent mechanical condition: timekeeping is regular, the chronograph functions precisely, and no technical intervention is required. The watch is ready to be worn immediately.

Case: The 40 mm stainless steel case maintains balanced proportions and a solid wrist presence. The lugs remain thick and well-defined, with edges still sharp and consistent with the original factory finish. Only minor signs of wear are present, mainly light surface hairlines and a very small chip that is not noticeable to the touch. The stainless steel tachymeter bezel is also in excellent condition, with crisp and clearly legible engravings. The caseback shows light superficial hairlines consistent with age, while the engravings remain sharp and well defined. Once on the wrist, the watch conveys a strong sense of integrity and aesthetic freshness.

Bracelet: The stainless steel 62490 bracelet contributes significantly to the overall aesthetic of the watch. The links display homogeneous surfaces without noteworthy wear and maintain a compact, solid feel on the wrist. Complete with all its original links, the watch fits up to approximately a 22 cm wrist, offering both versatility and comfort.

Dial: The silver dial, known among enthusiasts as the “Ghost” configuration, is the defining element of this model and is presented in excellent condition. The sunburst finish creates a refined play of light that harmoniously interacts with the three contrasting black subdials, which remain deep and well defined. The applied indexes and hands are in excellent condition and preserve optimal legibility, maintaining the watch’s original aesthetic balance.

Glass: The sapphire crystal is clear and free of scratches, ensuring sharp and unobstructed visibility of the dial and confirming the overall excellent condition of the watch.
