Born from a request in the 1930s by two Portuguese businessmen who wanted a wristwatch with the precision of a marine chronometer, the Portuguese – now officially known as the Portugieser – has become one of IWC’s most iconic collections. Reference IW371446 perfectly embodies its timeless elegance, with clean lines, harmonious proportions, and a design that blends classic watchmaking tradition with modern refinement.
The 40.9 mm stainless steel case is characterized by a thin bezel that opens up the dial, enhancing its legibility and creating a sense of balance and openness. The silver-plated dial features elegant blue Arabic numerals and two perfectly symmetrical chronograph sub-dials at 12 and 6 o’clock. The absence of a date display contributes to the dial’s purity and visual balance, while the blued steel hands offer a striking contrast and enhance readability in any light condition.
One of the defining traits of this model is the chromatic dialogue between the silver dial and the blue accents on the hands and markers – a refined combination that continues with the blue alligator leather strap, secured by an IWC-signed stainless steel deployant clasp. Inside, the watch is powered by the automatic IWC Caliber 79350, based on a solid Valjoux architecture. It features a two-register chronograph and a power reserve of approximately 44 hours. Case, Bracelet, Dial & Glass
The 40.9 mm stainless steel case is in excellent condition, never polished, with only minimal signs of wear that are not perceptible to the touch and virtually invisible when worn. Some superficial marks are visible on the chronograph reset pusher, though they remain subtle and unnoticeable on the wrist.
The original blue alligator leather strap by IWC is brand new and unworn, in perfect condition with no signs of wear. The IWC-signed stainless steel deployant clasp shows slight signs of use, consistent with occasional handling, but they are not noticeable to the touch and are barely visible to the eye.
The silver-plated dial with blued steel hands – a signature element of this reference – is flawlessly preserved. The applied blue Arabic numerals, polished accents, and finishes are sharp, uniform, and entirely intact.
The sapphire crystal, with anti-reflective treatment, is also in excellent condition with no visible marks.
Accessories & Warranty
The watch was sold by an authorized IWC dealer on March 29, 2020, and comes with its full original set: IWC inner and outer boxes (showing normal signs of age), official warranty card, booklets, and cleaning cloth.
It has undergone thorough quality checks in our certified workshops to ensure full compliance with the brand’s standards. The watch functions perfectly, with excellent parameters well within IWC’s tolerances, and does not require servicing.
