The IWC Portugieser Chronograph with black dial represents the boldest and most contemporary side of the Portugieser collection — a line born in the 1930s at the request of two Portuguese merchants who wanted the precision of a marine chronometer in a wristwatch. From that visionary request emerged one of the most iconic designs in fine watchmaking.
Reference IW371447 interprets this heritage with a stronger character compared to the more traditional silver-dial versions with blue or rose-gold hands. The deep black dial gives the watch a more intense and striking presence, enhancing the contrast with the applied numerals and the elegant Arabic markers that have always defined the Portugieser aesthetic.
The result is a chronograph that is refined yet assertive, formal yet never fragile. It preserves the generous proportions and outstanding legibility typical of the collection, while in this configuration it gains a more modern and versatile identity.
The black alligator strap completes the overall look with coherence and sophistication, making this version perfectly suitable both for formal attire and contemporary everyday elegance.
This black-on-black configuration is not the most traditional within the Portugieser family — and that is precisely its strength: less predictable, more distinctive. A Portugieser for those who appreciate elegance with character.
Case, Bracelet, Dial & Glass
General Overview: The IWC Portugieser Chronograph reference IW371447 is presented in excellent condition. The lugs remain thick and well defined, with a clear distinction between polished and brushed surfaces, confirming the absence of aggressive refinishing over time. The automatic IWC calibre 79350, based on the ETA 7750 architecture, is running properly, does not require any technical intervention, and is ready to be worn immediately. The watch comes with its original IWC box but without the original IWC warranty.
Case: The 40.9 mm stainless steel case is in excellent condition and shows no signs of excessive polishing or invasive work. The surfaces retain their original finishes and display only minimal signs of wear in the form of light surface hairlines, not noticeable to the touch. When worn, the watch appears visually almost like new.
Strap: The original IWC black alligator strap further enhances the overall condition of the watch, presenting itself in near-new condition without significant signs of wear. The stainless steel deployant clasp also shows very minimal, if any, visible signs of use.
Dial: The black dial, paired with polished hands, is in perfect condition. The applied Arabic numerals show no signs of deterioration and provide excellent legibility, preserving the timeless elegance that characterizes the model.
Crystal: The sapphire crystal is clear and free from scratches, offering a sharp and pristine view of the dial.
Accessories & Warranty
The watch is accompanied by its original IWC inner box (restored but showing normal signs of age), booklet, and cloth.
The original IWC warranty card is not included.
In addition, we provide the O&D Vintage warranty card together with our certificate of authenticity and lawful provenance, for the buyer’s protection.
The watch is covered by a 24-month O&D Vintage warranty starting from the date of purchase. The warranty applies to the movement and covers mechanical defects not caused by improper use or accidental damage, offering additional peace of mind and security.
